ACUTE CARE Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) / Physician’s Assistant (PA) – Viragh Ambulatory Oncology Infusion Center at the SKCCC

  • Full Time – 40 hours per week
  • Shift – (8am-4:30pm – provider practice hours) and (7-7:30pm -rapid response team hours )  Could be 8,10, 12 hour shifts in combination to total 40 hrs
  • Monday to Friday  -  Will be part of  NP/PA Oncology Urgent Care Team that will see patients in two Kimmel Cancer Center ambulatory buildings on the JHH campus
  • Occasional regular rotation to a Saturday shift in Urgent Care- Weinberg Building
  • Primary Site – The Skip Viragh Building       Secondary Site – The Weinberg Building

    DEGREE:

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing or PA school.
  • Completion of accredited NP/PA program. For NP’s, in area of specialty (Pediatrics, Family, Geriatrics, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Advanced clinical skills in specialty area or equivalent.
  • Advanced research knowledge, including interpretation, utilization, and conduct.
  • General computer knowledge and capability to use computer.

SKILLS:

  • The Nurse Practitioner/ Physician’s Assistant works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team and is responsible for providing comprehensive and age appropriate care to both well and/or ill patients in a disease group.
  • Ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members.
  • Analytical ability necessary to diagnose patients and to develop and implement plans of action for long and short term management of acute and chronic health.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to provide information to patients and health care personnel.

The Oncology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP)/ Physician’s Assistant (PA) in the Viragh Building is responsible for the general and urgent care needs of all the infusion and non-infusion patients in the Viragh Building.  There are two components to the standard work associated with this position.   As the lead Rapid Response Provider, this ACNP/PA spends 50% of his/her time providing support to stable and deteriorating patients, working with longitudinal providers,  to meet patients immediate care needs and transfer patients to the appropriate level of care as needed. This ACNP/PA spends the other 50% of their time in a disease based practice, with attending physicians, providing longitudinal care to patients including the delivery of standard of care and research cancer treatments, symptom management, palliative care,  urgent care and long term follow-up services    

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lead Rapid Response Provider for the Solid Tumor Patients in the Viragh building, including the Infusion Clinic - ~50% of effort

  • Facilitating  the rapid diagnosis and treatment of emergency medical conditions through an active and immediate process,  preventing  further deterioration of a patient’s condition (graduatenursingedu.org)
  • Assisting in the recognition and rapid diagnosis of oncologic emergencies associated with complications of treatment and disease progression.
  • Managing brief, but severe, episodes of illness such as hypersensitivity reactions, sepsis or respiratory distress
  • Initiating therapeutic and pharmaco-therapeutic interventions, in collaboration with specialist, to treat acute and chronic conditions (graduatenursingedu.org)
  • Managing safe and appropriate transitions in care (graduatenursingedu.org)
  • Assisting longitudinal  providers with inputting orders, obtaining consents, and prescription renewals
  • Assisting research RNs with the immediate needs of stable and deteriorating research patients, working with the research staff to distinguish research drug toxicities from other clinical events.

          Provider in a disease based Medical Oncology Practice   - ~50% of effort

  • Provides comprehensive, age appropriate, and episodic care to patients as part of  a collaborative longitudinal practice with an attending physician
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for organizing, treating and following a caseload of patients across the continuum of care
  • Acts as an educational and clinical resource to patients and families.
  • Provides patient centered evidence based care that supports the goals of patient and their family and ensures
