The Johns Hopkins Hospital
The Medical Progressive Care Unit is a 21-bed high acuity step-down unit, caring for critically ill adult medical patients. The patient population includes those with complex organ disease, requiring mechanical ventilation, vasoactive drips, and continuous monitoring. Common medical diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, GI bleed, liver failure, and DKA. This is a highly skilled floor, from which new staff will gain instrumental experience. Nurse to patient ratios are 2:1 or 3:1 depending on acuity. There is the opportunity for growth on the MPCU, regardless of where you are in your career!
Shifts: 12 Hour Rotating, Day/Night, Shifts
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Active Nursing Assistant Certification in Maryland is required
- 1 year of acute care (hospital) tech experience during the most recent 2 years is required (EMT or CRT experience may be considered)
- BLS CPR certification required: AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network accepted
Clinical Technicians at The Johns Hopkins Hospital have the opportunity to provide highly skilled and compassionate patient- and family-centered care as a contributing member of the health care team. Ongoing education is provided to all Clinical Technicians to ensure that all techs perform at the highest level of their certification and scope of practice. During your first year, you will have the opportunity to attend eight days of training off the unit, which provide interactive learning activities to support your personal and professional development.
